About Me

Page history last edited by Cynthia Kernan 7 years, 8 months ago
Greetings!

My name is Cynthia Kernan and this is the start of my 17th year teaching at Mandeville Elementary School (MES). I am a two-time graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University. I received my
B.A. in Elementary Education in 1999 and then my M.ED., in Curriculum and Instruction in 2003.

While currently residing in Lacombe, I am a native of New Orleans but have lived the majority of my life in St. Tammany Parish. My family includes my husband George; my youngest daughter
Gabrielle (16); my oldest daughter Jessica (28) along with my beautiful granddaughter, Hailey (8).

I consider teaching to be the greatest job that anyone could ever have. In fact, when I leave my house in the morning, I often find myself saying "I'm going to school" as opposed to
"I'm going to work". I love working with children, watching them grow, helping them make new discoveries with their learning, and seeing life through their eyes. My job is never dull or
boring as each day is different than the day before. I view learning as a continuous process not only for the students but for myself as well. I found this quote and although
the author is unknown, I think it is a fitting end to this paragraph "One who learns from one who is learning, drinks from a running stream." With that being said, my own knowledge must remain
current with the desire to expand. The teacher sets the pace for the class. If I am enthusiastic about learning, then my students will be too!

Mission Statement

As a member of the faculty at MES, I strongly share in the school's vision which states:

"By learning and sharing together, we can create an academic and safe learning community that produces self-motivated, responsible, and successful life-long learners."

More specifically, it is my goal to create a classroom with a nurturing yet challenging environment where students feel safe, respected, and free to take risks while learning. I also believe
in setting high expectations for all of my students and expect each of them to try their very best each and every day.
